Bricklaying is a critical skillset used in building and construction. If you require help with work on brick, block or stone, our company is here for you. We have skilled bricklayers available for work on new property builds, new build shells, and on extensions, renovations and refurbishments. If you need walls built for a landscaping theme, ornamental or retaining, our team can assist with that as well. Instead of having to hire in bricklayers independently, use Innovate Building as a combined building, construction and landscaping company.
We also specialise in groundworks and surface laying.
Innovate Building, located in Worthing, offers its bricklaying services in East Preston, Storrington and all surrounding West Sussex areas.
We have many years of experience in the field of residential and commercial construction. Our bricklayers can build using various techniques, like stretcher, header, English and Flemish bonds. Our personnel are also skilled in facing and can use Dutch, English-cross, brick-on-edge, raking and zigzag bonds.
Our bricklayers also specialise in retaining walls for gardens and landscapes.
Here are some of the different brick patterns we use:
Stretcher Bond – This pattern shows the long, narrow side of a brick (called the stretcher). Our contractors use this bond by placing bricks with the stretcher side visible only, overlapping above and below. This is a simple pattern used on walls that are half a brick thick, such as for boundaries and perimeters.
Header Bond – This pattern uses the short side of the brick. Each layer uses the header (short side) as the visible part, creating a wall of full thickness. There is an equal overlap of half a brick's width, with smaller pieces called "bats" used in corners. This bonding technique consists entirely of overlapped headers.
English Bond – Our experienced bricklayers use stretcher and header courses across an alternative formation for this style. The header course is placed in the middle of the stretcher course, aligning vertically. A special brick, called a quoin closer, staggers the vertical joints and addresses any continuity issues.
Flemish Bond – With this style, alternating stretcher and header bonds are laid using just one layer. The next layer is laid so that the header sits in the middle of the stretcher course below. This style is more complex, and the bond needs a higher level of skill. Bricklayers will work to a minimum thickness of one brick.
All the above bonds, and more, are available from Innovate Building. If you would like to know more about the different bonds our bricklayers use, get in touch with us and we’ll be more than happy to answer your questions. Should you need us to survey a site in East Preston, Storrington, Worthing or anywhere else in the West Sussex area, we can do this without charge. We also hold free consultations and our quotations come in writing without any obligation.
We want you to be happy with your choices and our standards of service.
A retaining wall is a vertical or nearly vertical structure used when one side of the construction needs to hold back soil to prevent collapse or erosion. This wall is used in construction and landscaping to manage the pressure from the retained material. By retaining the earth, the wall becomes a barrier and will assist with drainage if you have a garden often affected by pooling water.
Our bricklayers have experience building different types of retaining walls:
Reinforced Retaining Walls – These retaining walls use reinforcing materials like geotextiles to handle the pressure from the soil situated behind them.
Cantilever Retaining Walls – These walls are made with reinforced concrete stems and base slabs. They require careful design but also use less concrete.
Buttressed Retaining Walls – These walls offer support from the opposite side of the retained material, using a buttress to create the extra strength needed.
Our skilled bricklayers can build any type of wall for construction, decoration, ornamental or retaining purposes, anywhere in the Worthing, East Preston, Storrington and West Sussex areas. We assist private customers with self-build projects and main contractors with developments to manage. Innovate is also a friend to property developers, property managers and letting agents.
